Who is New Mexico State?
The Aggies are 3-6 after a one-point loss at New Mexico, which followed their trend of close losses this season. That included a 65-61 loss to the Miners in November in a game decided in the final minute.
New Mexico State is balanced, with five players averaging between 8 and 11 points, led by guard Molly Kaiser at 11.0 points a game. The Aggies go with a guard-heavy lineup but have outrebounded their opponents this year.
Quoting the team
“It’s going to always be a great game,” UTEP coach Kevin Baker said. “Anytime we play them, if you look at the history, no matter what the teams’ records are it’s always a very close game, especially over there. I anticipate another close game over there. They are going to be excited to play this rivalry game and it’s going to be a good one.
“They play five guards so it’s a tough matchup for us, they are going to be hard to guard. We’ve got to do a better job keeping them in front of us than the last time we played them.”
Guard Jazion Jackson said the team is using the first close meeting as motivation.
“We’ve got some unfinished business we didn’t take care of the first time,” she said. “I’m hoping we get out there and show them who we are, show them our identity. We’re capable of getting stops and making it hard for their offense to score.”
