SGA Approves Cybersecurity and Women’s Business Clubs — MARIST CIRCLE

Within the past week, the Marist College Student Government Association has been appointing new members, revising its constitution and approving new clubs. Student Body President Gabriel Borbon and Chief Justice William Doughtery signed bills to charter the Cybersecurity Club and Women in Business Club, making both Marist Chartered Clubs.

The Cybersecurity Club pitched to SGA by expressing concern for students’ cybersafety on campus. They described how the club would help provide awareness about cybersecurity and engage the community around the topic. Within the club, the leaders look to start interactive workshops and events, which can include ideas anywhere from speakers to “Hackathons” or a coding event that is intended to build upon a pre-existing program. They had already drafted their schedule and budget, before SGA approved the chartering of the club.

The second club chartered was Women in Business. They introduced plans for an executive, C-Suite Board and a junior board, with individuals already picked out. The club described how its goal is to encourage women’s success in the business industry and give women a safe place to grow and find their footing. They discussed “gender-specific barriers” in the workplace and intend to share tips and ways to cross those barriers. The Women in Business Club is not new at Marist, however. The club already has over 250 members on its mailing list, as well as a lively Instagram account. The only difference now is that they are an official chartered Marist club.
