HM Queen Nanasipau’u received a donation of $20,700 for her post-tsunami charity work, in Tonga, presented by Robina Nakao CEO of Fexco Tonga Ltd. at the Royal Palace in Nuku’alofa on 19 July.

The donation will support the distribution operations of the charity.

Bernadette Fifita, a committee member of the Queen Nanasipau’u Charity said that major donations of goods have been flowing into Tonga since the natural disasters, the volcanic eruption and tsunamis, in January.

She said that many containers of goods had arrived and needed repacking for distribution to displaced and needy communities throughout Tonga, and so far, the Queen has covered most of the distribution expenses herself.

Bernadette said although the Queen’s Charity had also received financial donations for displaced communities, they were directing those funds to resettlement projects and not using them for their day-to- day operations of the charity itself.

“The donation from Robina will help us to cover lots of daily expenses such as packing materials and also for petrol and transport for making sure the goods are distributed properly,” she said.

FEXCO Tonga Ltd. is the master agent for Western Union Money Transfer in Tonga, and operates Money Exchange and Business Transfers.
