Old Rivals Meet Again – This Time In The Valley

The Murray State Racers (10-8, 5-3 MVC) hit the road to renew one of the top rivalries in the nation when they take on the Belmont Bruins (13-6, 6-2 MVC) at the Curb Event Center in Nashville, Tennessee in an 8 p.m. tip. From 2013 to 2022, the Racers met the Bruins 18 times in the Ohio Valley Conference in regular season and post-season games combined and won seven. The Racer won both games a year ago, including their first win at the Curb Center. The last year has seen the two schools leave the OVC and join the MVC and both teams have shown that they can compete well in their new league home.

Last Time Out

In their latest games, the Racers snapped a two-game skid with losses at Drake and UNI with an 81-64 win Saturday at home against UIC. The Bruins pushed their win streak to four with a 76-72 win over UNI Saturday at home. The Racers lost at UNI last Tuesday after they had a nine-point lead disappear in the final eight minutes.

The Valley Road Is Long

In an unprecedented 20-game MVC season, it is a marathon, not a sprint, and winning on the road in The Valley is not for the faint. Winning at home has become even more important. The Racers and Bruins are each 2-2 in MVC road games so far. After Missouri State’s win in Springfield over Indiana State 64-62 on Sunday, road teams are 18-30 (.375) so far in the 2022-23 season in MVC play.

Wood & Moore Making Shots

Brian Moore and JaCobi Wood had matching 21-point performances in the UIC game, marking the first time this season for the Racers to have a pair of 20-point players. In the last four games, Wood is 20-33 (.606) from the field, including 9-16 (.562) from the 3-point line, with 15 assists. Moore is 19-31 (.612) from the field with eight assists.
