The first Women in Business luncheon of the year will be held Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Brentwood United Methodist Church.
Dale Smith Thomas, a top-rated speaker who speaks internationally and is a bestselling author, will be speaking at the event.
The topic of the luncheon is “From Time Management to Mind Management, Strategies for a More Productive Life.” Business women come together for networking, a chance to learn tools for their success in their professional and personal lives as they eat lunch and connect with other women.
Women in Business is the women’s initiative for Williamson Inc. the county’s chamber of commerce. Members of the chamber and guests are welcome to attend. Cost of the event is $55 for members and $65 for guests.
“I am excited that the Williamson County Chamber of Commerce Women in Business will be resuming, said Beth Palk, chair of the Women in Business Steering Committee. “It will be a pleasure having our own Brentwood native, Dale Smith Thomas, speak about moving ‘From Time Management to Mind Management, Strategies for A More Productive Life.’ She brings a wealth of knowledge to the community, and I hope that women in the community can join us,”
Over the past 20 years, research has started to show that the greatest competitive advantage in the modern economy is a positive and engaged brain, according to Thomas. Optimism is not a divorce from reality, but a strategy that can improve every single business outcome that researchers can monitor and test. Happier more optimistic employees are more engaged, less likely to call in sick and their productivity goes up by 31%.
During the luncheon, Thomas will offer to guide attendees to the simple, yet powerful principles and behavioral shifts that can be life-changing. She will show how research has proven to be critical to an employee’s happiness and retention, and how learning to be “mindful” can make us more thoughtful, creative, and open to new ideas, allowing us to think quickly and creatively.
Mastering your mindset requires constant integration and constant practice, Smith’s premise points out. For those who choose to pursue it, they will quickly understand this is the most important skill in life. Stop trying to manage your time and learn how to manage your mind.
