Do you ever watch a movie where the female character is totally kicking it hard and you find yourself screaming at the screen “You go girl!”? Don’t worry! We’ve all done it at one point or another in our lives. Let’s face it. There are just some movies out there that bring out the #BossGirl in us. There’s nothing greater than watching a girl on the big screen totally rocking it and being in power. Therefore, we’ve dedicated this article to all the fabulous women who were totally killing it and inspired the #GirlBoss within us.
1. Julia Roberts in Erin Brockovich
Off course she’s the first one on our list! Julia Roberts totally killed it in this movie. And we weren’t the only one who thought so either. Her inspiring role in Erin Brockovich was so great that it won her an Oscar for Best Actress. She checked all the boxes in this movie as far as Girl Power goes. Is single mom making it work? Check! The totally badass persona who stands her ground? Check! Working hard to make a difference and saving lives? Check! I don’t think any other actress would have been able to pull it off like Julie Roberts. The best part of this movie? It’s based on a true story.
2. Anne Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada
Hollywood sweetheart Anne Hathaway had to make our list! In this movie, Hathaway plays alongside legendary Meryl Streep. While Meryl Streep is pretty much everyone’s nightmare when it comes to having a boss, Anne totally plays the perfect role. She puts up with her and exceeds her expectations every single time. And who didn’t love the ending when she was pretty much telling Meryl to go F* herself and quit?
3. Britt Robertson in Girlboss
Based on Sophia Amoruso’s real-life experience, Britt Robertson shows that when everything in the world is going against you, you just have to keep trying and moving forward. Although Girlboss is not a movie but more a short TV series, we still included it in our list because of what it stands for. Girlboss shows that if you work hard and never stop believing that you can do it, you will eventually succeed.
4. Felicity Jones in On the Basis of Sex
Earlier this year, On the Basis of Sex, was released and let me tell you this movie inspired women from all over the world. The movie takes place during the 60’s-70’s era where women were not active in the workforce and where still viewed as being homemakers. Felicity Jones plays the role of Ruth Bader who completely revolutionized the role of women in the workforce. Although she graduates at the top of her class at Harvard Law, she has trouble finding a job as a lawyer since she’s a woman. She goes to show that women can do the job of men just as good and in some cases, even better. On the Basis of Sex demonstrates that your gender should not affect your career choices.
5. Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde
You didn’t think we would forget the fabulous Reese Witherspoon, did you? Who else absolutely loved her as Elle Woods? Reese confronted every contradiction about being a ditzy blonde who doesn’t have a brain. While the movies start with her going to Harvard Law to win back her boyfriend, it takes a completely different turn when she actually decides to do it for herself. Believing in yourself, standing up for what she believes in and keeping it real is what it’s all about. Reese started a whole new movement when she played Elle Woods. She showed young girls everywhere that pretty doesn’t mean dumb. Elle Woods is a role model for girls everywhere. #Whatlikesitshard?
