Over the past several years, WWE has cultivated some of the best women’s wrestling in the world. Thanks to superstars such as Becky Lynch, Asuka, IYO SKY, Bianca Belair, and Sasha Banks, the company is a premiere destination for women across the wrestling landscape. One such name that once stood out as a promising young star in WWE was none other than Tenille Dashwood. What some fans may have forgotten about Dashwood’s time spent as Emma in WWE is that in 2014, she was briefly released by the company following a bogus arrest of the women’s wrestling star after a mishap at a local Walmart. This incident could have totally derailed her career, but thankfully, Dashwood’s career would remain mostly intact following the bizarre situation.
As Emma, Tenille Dashwood Was A Fan Favorite In NXT And WWE
Signing with WWE in 2011 after becoming a breakout star in women’s wrestling within the independent wrestling scene, Tenille Dashwood would officially join FCW in 2012. When the show was rebranded to NXT that same year, Dashwood would be one of the featured female stars within the company, becoming Emma as she would face off against the likes of Aksana, Paige, Natalya, Summer Rae, and Sasha Banks during her first run in developmental.
In 2014, Emma would slowly be introduced to the main roster fans when she was brought in as a sort-of sidekick character for Santino Marella, becoming the resident comedy wrestler for the women’s division as she began to get over her goofy dancing gimmick with the WWE Universe. Through the first half of 2014, Emma would be featured regularly within the Divas division, facing off against Summer Rae and Fandango in mixed tag-team action, and wrestling a number of the big stars in the WWE divas division at the time.
WWE Released Dashwood After She Was Wrongly Arrested For Theft
In one of the most confusing, mind-boggling cases of WWE releasing a talent, Emma would be caught up in a bit of controversy during the summer of 2014. Being arrested for stealing an iPad case at Walmart, WWE would release Emma from her contract. It would then be found out through Bryan Alvarez and Sean Ross Sapp that she paid for an iPad case, just that it was wrongly scanned, which led to the issue in the first place. Being ordered to serve one day’s worth of community service, Emma would have the theft charge dropped against her.
Within hours of releasing Dashwood from her WWE contract, the company would reverse its decision as the return of Emma would come about, thus ending a strange, unpredictable situation for the Australian wrestling star. While this ridiculous arrest would lead to Emma’s initial release from the company, WWE would thankfully welcome her back after the issue was cleared up.
Tenille Dashwood Had An Up And Down WWE Run
Returning to action after her very brief release, Emma would fail to find much more success on the WWE main roster, and she would eventually slide back down into WWE NXT, where she would form a partnership with Dana Brooke as a new heel duo in the developmental brand. Her most notable time during this second run in NXT would see her feud with Asuka in the second half of 2015, The following year, Emma would return to the main roster as a heel, though she would suffer a back injury that would keep her out.
WWE would attempt to repackage Emma into a Sable-like character, with a new name of Emmalina. This would be dropped when she would actually return to action, just as regular Emma in 2017. Later in the year, Emma would face off against Asuka, losing to the Japanese star at 2017’s TLC PPV and again during an episode of Monday Night Raw. Days after her second match against Asuka, Emma would be released from the company for good. In the years since, Dashwood would wrestle under her real name across the world, taking part in All In and wrestling for Ring of Honor and Impact Wrestling, with the latter being her home from 2019 until 2022. Today, Tenille Dashwood mainly focuses on modeling.
