Bethenny Frankel has always been in the public eye. She’s always surrounded herself around media whether by being behind the scenes or appearing on screen as a contestant or a Reality TV Star, she doesn’t shy away from the public eye. But how did this television personality create a million dollar company? How did she create one of the most popular brands? Founder and CEO of SkinnyGirl, Bethenny definitely had her work cut out for her. Want to know how she did it? Curious to know it all started? Don’t worry! We’ve got the scoop for you!
When you look at celebrities or famous CEO’s, you often think that they had a great childhood. It’s hard to imagine that someone so successful didn’t have a perfect start. Bethenny Frankel didn’t have the best childhood growing up. In fact, it was far from perfect. Her father walked out on her and her mother when she was just 4-years-old. Although her mother remarried a year later, she was constantly drinking and had violent arguments with her step-father. She moved around several times and because of that attend different schools. Her childhood was anything but stable.
The Beginning of a Promising Television Career
It didn’t take long for Bethenny to find her spark. Her first television opportunity was when she was a production assistant on the set of Saved by the Bell. In 2005, she was one of the contestants on the TV Show The Apprentice: Martha Stewart and made her way to the top two finalists.
She definitely made a positive impression while on the show because shortly after, the creators of Real Housewives contacted her: she was to join The Real Housewives of New York City. Shortly after, she started her own show all Bethenny Getting Married which made a killing on the Bravo Network where it was being aired. After appearing for 3 seasons in The Real Housewives of New York City, Bethenny announced that she would not be appearing in the fourth season for professional reasons. She did make a few appearances as well as having her own talk show, but nothing really stuck for too long.
The Birth of SkinnyGirl
Bethenny really rose to the challenge when she created what is today a million dollar industry. While she was gaining stardom as a celebrity through the several TV shows she took part it, she was focusing on her own personal brand: SkinnyGirl. In 2009, she released two books: Naturally Thin: Unleash Your SkinnyGirl and Free Yourself from a Lifetime of Dieting and The SkinnyGirl Dish: Easy Recipes for Your Naturally Thin Life. In 2010, she created a DVD Body by Bethenny and also released an audio book The Skinnygirl Rules. It was the beginning of the SkinnyGirl brand.
The Creation of a Multi-Million Dollar Company
In April of 2011, Frankel created the SkinnyGirl Cocktail. To say it was a hit is an understatement. It practically went viral overnight! Which girl isn’t looking for cocktails that are low on carbs? If there’s one thing that you can be sure of is that ladies love their cocktails! The only down part is that they include so many cocktails so it’s not great if you want to indulge yourself in cocktails all night because we always end up regretting it after. So off course when you hear the words SkinnyGirl Cocktail, you jump on it! To good to be true? Doesn’t have to be. Bethenny found what ladies have been longing for and the recipe to our hearts! Her low-calorie cocktails literally made a killing! Especially her margaritas!
What’s even more #BossGirl of her is that she made a killing when she sold her company. Fortune Brands’ Beam Global purchased the company for an estimate of $100 million. Not bad for a #BossGirl!
Although she sold SkinnyGirl Cocktail, Bethany still owns the SkinnyGirl brand and has since launched several other programs and products through the brand. Forbes announced that her earning through her brand were approx. $12 million a year.
Part of the Sharks
Her hard work and self-made multi-millionaire status earned her a seat on the Shark Tank series as a guest judge for a few episodes. She joined other female Sharks and has proved over and over again that even though your reach celebrity status, you have to keep working on your personal brand. It’s through hard work and motivation that there is success, and in the end, it’s all worth it.
