In the lead up to the next women’s Major Championship of 2022, the Amuni Evian Championship, Brendon Elliott, PGA had the opportunity to catch up with the 2022 KPMG Women’s PGA Champion In Gee Chun following her victory at Congressional Country Club in Maryland.

With 4 career wins and 3 of those being Majors…why do you think you find so much success in Major Championships?

I always try to keep the same routine for every tournament. Especially for majors, I try to keep even more focus while prepping throughout the week. This is important as major courses really test all aspects of our skills on the course. Since training with my coach, he taught me how to strategize and develop a game plan out on the course. I’m thankful to my team for helping me keep my focus and routine throughout the season.

This year marks 10 years since you turned professional… What are some of the most important lessons you have learned so far in your professional journey?

The most important lesson I’ve learned is patience and staying in the present. These two lessons are a priority to me, and what I tried to keep in mind [at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship].

What was your strength at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship?

I would have to say it was when I changed my club setting from replacing my hybrid with the 7 wood and 9 wood. I made a lot of birdie chances with those two clubs. Just like I mentioned on the top, I’m continuing to stay in the present and enjoy each moment on the course no matter the result.

What are you currently working on with your game?

I’m working on my swing mechanics, specifically the transition and rhythm of my downswing.

Any drills you use currently that you can share with our readers?

I take practice swings with a golf towel which helps me not to rush through the transition of my downswing and keep a good rhythm.

As a golfer, practicing hard is important, but don’t forget to have fun during the process.
