PLANTSVILLE — Fashion designer Rebecca Minkoff will be the keynote speaker during the Business Women’s Forum on March 15, 2023.
The Business Women’s Forum, now in its 40th year, is Connecticut’s largest and longest running conference for women in the state devoted to professional and personal development.
The event will take place at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville. Throughout the day, attendees will hear from a variety dynamic speakers and trainers, get the opportunity to network with hundreds of other professional women, and get the chance to win prizes.
Ms. Minkoff is an industry leader in luxury handbags, accessories, footwear, and apparel.
After developing an affinity for design while in the costume department in high school, Ms. Minkoff moved to New York City at age 18 to pursue her dream of becoming a fashion designer.
In 2001, she developed a version of the “I Love New York” t-shirt as part of a five piece capsule collection, which appeared on the Tonight Show and became an overnight sensation.
In 2005, she designed her first handbag, which she dubbed the “Morning After Bag.”
The iconic bag ignited her career as a handbag designer and inspired the brand’s expansion into a lifestyle brand.
Ms. Minkoff returned to her roots of apparel design and introduced her first, ready-to-wear collection in 2009.
In 2018, she launched a podcast, Superwomen with Rebecca Minkoff, which focuses on the stories of resilience, failure, and success by luminaries such as Katie Couric, Bozoma St. John, and Jessica Alba.
Later that year, she established the Female Founder Collective, network of businesses led by women who invest in women’s financial power across a socio-economic spectrum by enabling and empowering female-owned businesses.
The Business Women’s Forum will continue its tradition of supporting young women pursuing a career in business through the distribution of scholarships to Post University.
Scholarship recipients will be announced prior to the event. Since the inception of the event, more than $250,000 raised from the Business Women’s Forum has gone towards these scholarships.
The Business Women’s Forum is a program of the Greater Waterbury Chamber of Commerce Foundation and is being held in conjunction with Presenting Partner Onyx II Fine Jewelers.
Past BWF conferences have featured Vanessa Williams, Barbara Corcoran, Leeza Gibbons, Kathy Ireland, Elizabeth Vargas, Paula Abdul, Robin Roberts, Goldie Hawn, Jamie Lee Curtis, Suze Orman, Jane Seymour, and Valerie Bertinelli.
