BPI launches latest Ka-Negosyo loans
The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) recently introduced new loan products and programs designed to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The Ka-Negosyo Credit Line (KCL) is ideal for recurring business expenses such as raw materials and finished goods inventory, employee wages, utilities, equipment repair and maintenance, and sales or distribution costs.
The Ka-Negosyo Ready Loan (KRL) is available for SMEs with seasonal working capital requirements, such as stocking up on supplies and inventory for Christmas and holidays, harvest seasons, or peak business seasons.
The Ka-Negosyo SME Loan (KSL) can help support SMEs who are aspiring to branch out, expand product lines, purchase new equipment, or meet other capital expenditures.
The Property Acquisition Loan (PAL) makes it more convenient and comfortable for the business owner to invest in such an expense. PAL spreads the payment term over a long period of time, and as the property asset earns more profits for the business.
SMEs interested in availing of KCL or PAL will enjoy waived processing fees at the upcoming BPI Ka-Negosyo Festival from September 15 to October 15.
Globe, NTC kick off IT Academy
Globe and the National Teachers College (NTC) have teamed up in kicking off the Globe IT Academy program this school year, aiming to better equip teachers in the delivery of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.
The Globe IT Academy aims to further empower and enable schools to enhance the delivery of STEM Education at all levels, a crucial step in driving the country’s global education standing.
The academy’s program is responsive to the new administration’s call for the development of competitive Filipino talent fit for an increasingly borderless employment landscape amid growing digitalization across the globe.
Globe and NTC carried out in August a train-the-trainers certification workshop on progressive approaches to STEM delivery in the classroom. As the main participant for the pilot launch, NTC handpicked educators who will be specializing in Math and Science for both the K+12 and college levels.
Globe intends to work with NTC in the long-term to expand the IT Academy program to more schools, especially state colleges and universities determined to improve STEM delivery in the classroom.
1Export opensin Indonesia
After raising $860,000, 1Export strengthened their core business, launched a logistics vertical, and opened in Indonesia.
1Export is a one-stop, end-to-end platform helping Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) with their exporting needs, particularly focusing on aspects related to compliance, distribution, and logistics.
1Export has helped hundreds of SMEs export to 50 countries around the world, ranging from traditional distributors and retailers to online stores.
In late 2019, the company was invited to join Indonesia-based accelerator programs, one of which was the GojekXcelerate program where they even emerged as the winner.

9.9 Shopee performance
Top local sellers sold six times more items on the Shopee platform at the 9.9 Super Shopping Day on September 9 than on an average day.
Shopee worked with sellers to curate a wide assortment of P1 and P49 deals for everyday essentials in Home & Living, Health & Personal Care, and Women’s Apparel during 9.9.
Local sellers took advantage of 9.9 to grow their businesses, with one top local merchant from Valenzuela City selling over 400,000 packs of face masks on September 9 alone. Another fashion accessories seller used Shopee Live and gained 80,000 views during their 9.9 livestream. Meanwhile, leading brands Uni-Care, Unilever Beauty, and Maybelline also saw a boost in orders.
Countless users tuned in to Shopee livestreams 87 million times and engaged with in-app games for over 16 million total plays throughout the 9.9 period.
Filipinos took advantage of ShopeePay’s P1 Load & Data promos, with purchases tripling on 9.9 compared to a regular day.

Y Combinator empowers Filipino startups
Xendit has teamed up with Y Combinator (YC), a US startup accelerator program and investment fund that supports founders at every stage, for YC’s Startup School Manila Meet-up, an event aimed to gather over 70 Filipino startup founders to talk about and learn from each other’s business journey as a part of the Startup School live summer course.
YC’s Startup School’s summer course was a free 7-week online course for current and aspiring entrepreneurs around the world who dream of building a billion dollar company.
Running from June 27 to August 10, the program featured a series of online talks from YC Group Partners and successful YC founders, every Monday and Wednesday via the Zoom conference platform.
