For the first time this year, women from various business backgrounds in Central Queensland gathered at Ocean Brew Eatery to participate in a business networking and mastermind lunch on Saturday.
Event host and Coastal Kinesiology owner Katie Crews said she had been hosting this event for the past year, which has continued to evolve and grow.
“The whole concept of this business networking idea was because when you are self-employed, it can be very isolating, so I decided to start this to help others make connections, gain insight and receive feedback,” she said.
“Business coach Cameron Allen was able to come to this session and talk to the group about time management and creating a more productive avenue in business.
“There was then an opportunity for the women to introduce themselves and discuss their business or business ideas.
“Women in start-ups need to have access to networks and information without having to pay thousands of dollars.”
Ms Crews said the workshop also looked into finding the balance between personal and business life, which could be done by seeking help from others.
“The biggest takeaway was learning to identify what you can’t do instead of wasting hours trying to learn how to do things, outsource them, and focus on things you are really good at,” she said.
“When we step into business, many of us are trying to take on the product and service, marketing and financial stuff. But very rarely are we good at all of those areas.
“Focus on what you are good at, and don’t lose time trying to learn new processes.”
Moving forward for future events, Ms Crews wants people to know that it is open to all women, even those who have yet to be in business.
“I don’t want women to think they have to have an active business to come along,” she said.
“They could be an employee looking to enhance their skills or just to make connections. It’s not a closed forum.
“I market these events on social media and am in the process of creating a website.
“Details for the next event in early March can be found on the Coastal Kinesiology Facebook page and will look at limiting beliefs.”
