Showcase it and show your superiors your best assets. An opportunity comes up for you to promote your strongest points? Grab it! Go above and beyond. And make sure your managers are aware. That way, when a promotion comes up for something you would excel at, you’ll be sure to be remembered as the girl with the insane skills.
2. Start building strategic relationships that can help you in your career
Often, the person who gets the job is because of a person they know who knows someone. So why not be that person? You have your eye on a position that you know you would be great at? Find out who works in that department. Get in touch with the hiring manager. If you see them in the hallway or in line at the cafeteria, start up a conversation. Start with small talk and introduce yourself. Tell them where you would see yourself professionally. Keep things light and simple. Something along the lines of “You work in marketing right? I always thought you guys did a great job for so and so. I actually studied in marketing and would love to work in it but nothing’s come up yet…”. Short and sweet. Believe me, when there is an opening, your name will be remembered.
3. Create a Victory Log
It can be hard as a shy person to loose confidence in themselves. Thinking they are not good enough or that they don’t deserve the promotion are often thoughts that go through their mind. So, why not take the time to create a victory log. If your goal is to climb the corporate ladder, then there’s a part of you that believes you can get there and that you are good enough. Therefore, take the time to write down your accomplishment. Grab a notebook and everytime you do something successfully, write it down. Take a note. That way, when you start feeling down and start second guessing yourself, grab that notebook and read everything you accomplished. It will boost up your confidence and have you feeling better in no time. Reading ones accomplishment can go a long way in making one feel better and building up ones confidence.
